Fujitsu Wins US$1.5 Bln Undersea Cable Network Contract from Reliance

The Economic Times of India reported that Fujitsu has landed a US$1.5 billion NGN (Next Generation Network) contract from Flag Telecom, a subsidiary of India's Reliance Communications, for the construction of an undersea fiber-optic cable network connecting France and Hong Kong via India. According to the same report, this new project, scheduled for completion by 2010 at the latest, is expected to extend the current FLAG (Fiber-optic Link Around the Globe) network from a length of 65,000km to 115,000km, connecting 60 countries worldwide. Upon competition, this new cable is projected to enable high-speed bandwidth connectivity, carrying 2.5 billion simultaneous voice calls, 300 million simultaneous web chats, and 52 million simultaneous video chats.
